Windsor is where a lot of us live, where some of our kids go to school, and it's where we like to shop, eat, and hang out. We really like it here and often find ourselves praying for the "peace and prosperity" of Windsor, much like the prophet Jeremiah prayed (Jeremiah 29:7).
We also know that there are friends and neighbors here who come on hard times and could use some help, so we offer the Windsor Food Shelf as a way to help them meet their food needs. An average week's supply from the Food Shelf is worth about $30-40.
The Windsor Food Shelf is supplied in partnership with individuals, farms and local organizations who also want to make sure no one goes hungry. Together we're working with God to bring about an answer to our own prayers for peace and prosperity in Windsor.
Community Dinners
The Windsor Food Shelf, in cooperation with area organizations, is hosting Community Dinners on the third Thursday of each month at Trinity Church, serving from 5:30pm–6:30pm.
Why are we doing it? Believe it or not (and we hadn’t!), there are children who do not eat on the weekends at home, because food is simply not available. For a second grader to go home on Friday afternoon and not eat again until school lunch on Monday morning is simply unfathomable. We can’t fix this problem, or even meet the need in full. But we can do our best, and that’s what we aim to do.
What does it entail? For each child identified as having a serious need for nutritional assistance at home (the school will do this confidentially), our volunteers will pack five healthy items. Each Friday afternoon, we deliver these packages to the school for discreet distribution.
What does it cost? FIVE DOLLARS! For the five items each weekend (Granola bar, raisins, applesauce, chicken noodle soup, ready-made mac & cheese), the cost is just $5 per child. That’s it! Over the entire school year, a child can be assisted for $133.
How will we fund it? Through giving by those who want to make a difference. If you’d like to contribute, 100% of donations go to purchase food for the program. We have no administrative costs and no overhead. Every dollar you give goes to the children.
